Today we went on the Moscow Metro. I am so glad that Brad and Maureen had given us a heads up on the STEEP escalator down to the platform. It just went straight down! Evidently many Metro stations also were built as bomb shelters here in Moscow. I digress. We walked in and staked the area out. Dave said ok lets just go. (kind of like an intervention he takes a few steps closer each day). I said no lets go do it. I got two tickets and we were off. Then as we were sitting in the "train" and it felt like we were going 100 miles an hour and the lights were flickering I was saying a prayer that we would see the sun again and I would never complain about my feet hurting again. Of course Dave now loves the Metro and I am sure it will be a daily occurrence.
We were test running the Metro today to make sure ONE that we could and TWO because next Saturday we want to take the Metro to an outside market area. Anyway, we did not go far. We started at Old Arbat and went down to the Kremlin - two stops down. It cost about $.80 for one way. We did not make any line changes, we may tackle that one later. Since Dave is so keen on it now - I am sure we will! Pray that I don't have motion sickness! Since we had a good day today - it looks like Saturday we will be set for venturing out and going to this market.
The two underground metro stations we visited were very interesting. Dave would not let me take a lot of pictures - I guess today I was the one sticking out like a sore thumb. The tile mosaics, marble statues and columns were very beautiful. Did I mention that there were a lot of people? We read that the Moscow Metro is busier than London's and New York's Metro combined on a normal day. That is a lot for a North Carolina girl to take in, let me tell you.
Today we had lunch at Mama Pasta's. Who knew we had a high end mall just past the US Embassy which is right next door to us. Thanks to Susan who pointed us in the right direction we were able to find it. Maybe next time we go back we will actually get pasta! But it was good and different than what we had been doing. For dinner on our walk back from the Metro excursion we picked up a rotisserie chicken and had that for dinner. Again, thanks to Susan who gave us the courage to try the small vendors. We may just get a chicken every night - cheap, easy, and VERY good!
Its hard to believe this time LAST week we were still in shell shock over court and that this time NEXT week we will be in the apartment with ZACH!!
