13 Days - But who’s counting?

We have been making trip preparations the last week and this rainy weekend. I find it amazing just how packing for the second trip feels so different. We have our bags laid out and "stuff" migrating back to the suit cases. I of course cannot decide what to take and what not to take. Packing for three is so much fun! (Only a little stressful – ok more stressful than I thought it would be!) Now that we know we will have Zach an extra week - I feel like I need to take more stuff! I keep telling myself – you will have a washing machine in the apartment you don’t need this much! But I still feel the need to over pack for Zach! (Don't worry, a Clemson and UNC shirt will be packed!)

We are so happy that our apartment is close to where we stayed before. We feel comfortable in this general area and our ablity to get to a grocery store! At least I don't feel like I have to pack the whole kitchen. We are so thankful for this! And how happy am I that we have a full size refrigerator and not a dorm size fridge!

As we are planning our trip and telling people about our dates. Most people have to recover from their shock that we will be there a month. They all ask - why so long? The only thing I can tell them is that the beginning of May is a huge holiday in Russia. As it is explained to us May 1st, May Day, is labor/spring day. There is a lot of history behind this holiday and we hope to see maybe a parade or other events during this time. To our understanding many (if not all) government offices close and do not reopen till May 12th. What is also rather interesting is that we will be there when they inaugurate their new president on May 7th! Since we have all this extra time during an eventful couple of weeks we hope to will learn more about Russian culture. It is so nice to have this time to learn more about our son's heritage.

Well, we have sent our visa applications off. So we are waiting on getting them back. Other wise not too much going on.

Less than two weeks left till we fly out!!

Good morning! We're still holding out hope that we'll hear news of our court date tomorrow (hopefully!) or some time this week. We had originally thought it might be around 4/21 (given the timelines of other families w/ our agency) but that probably isn't realistic. If it's 4/28 there's a chance we'll be there at the same time as you!! If that's the case, we definitely need to get together for coffee, lunch, whatever! We, too, are planning on staying during the 10 day wait period. It hadn't dawned on me, though, that I would be packing for 3 until I read your post. I mean, somewhere in the back of my mind I knew I was, but it didn't really hit me until just now. Does that make sense? Anyway, reading that sentence gave me chills. I am so thrilled for you! I hope the next 12 days goes by quickly for you! Karyn & Norm
