Important “Stuff” – We picked up Zach’s passport today at the police station. He is just so sweet in his little black and white photo. Zach is such a world traveler. It is stamped for residence abroad and is just waiting for the residency visa we will get at the American Embassy next week! Even his little birth certificate that we got Tuesday with “Zachary” and us as his parents was stamped and states foreign residency. We reviewed the passport to make sure that there were no mistakes. I found it funny that all the spelling of names in Russian passports are spelled out in French. I, of course, hate that because it spells Zachary with a “K” not an “H” and there is no “Y”. Yeah, I know I am funny about how we spell his name. In the grand scheme of things it’s no big deal, but it’s ZACH! Sorry, for the rant. I digress.
We were picked up around 12:30 and got back around 3:30, not to bad for an outing. We made another quick stop to the large grocery store behind the police department where the prices are much cheaper. Again no money was spent for the passport – but money was spent at the grocery store!
Mundane stuff of parenting life. OK, so none of this is mundane to Dave and I. We are just constantly amazed at how quickly Zach picks up on things and how he just smiles and is so attentive! For example, since he is making so many babbling sounds now we play with his bottom lip to change the sounds. Now he is playing with his bottom lip to make the sounds change – and he just laughs at himself! Precious!
Overall we had a wonderful day! Zach loves standing on his own, till he realizes he is standing on his own. He will be walking by the end of the weekend! He is so close to taking off! Of course this means we are prepared for all the bumps and bruises that are sure to come.
Naps today went well. He slept on the way to the police department. He really likes riding and watching cars and buildings, then its thumb in the mouth and off to sleep.
Also, today we used the stroller for the “first time”. Since we have been blessed to have Zach the stroller has been used as our “high chair”. Zach did wonderful! Dave pushed him around the grocery store and at the police department. They were soooo cute! Zach just took in all that was around him. We were really worried about too much too soon – but he did really well. No crying or fussing. No shaking of the head. Just sweet little smiles and babble noise. We of course did not stay long at all. We did not want to press our luck or over do it for him.
Bath time was maybe a slightly bit better. Dave started in the bathtub and Zach stayed in a little bit longer. The duckies kept his attention for maybe 25 seconds as he still cried, but at least it was not 25 seconds of the “fear-of-God-get-me-out-of-here-grabbing-for-Mommy” that started and ended bath time.
We are “free” from any adoption related “business” till Monday when we have our physician appointment for Zach to be checked out. This appoint is in the morning and after we are done with this we will fill out paperwork with our translator that will be needed for the American Embassy which we will go to our first of two meetings on Tuesday.
We are enjoying every second of our time with our son. We see new changes and growth each day. We are so blessed to be here with and for him. It is not easy, being a parent isn’t easy. We knew that when we started trying to become parents years ago. But even the challenging moments with Zach makes every moment waiting for him worth it. I look back on the years waiting and longing and every moment lead us to this point and we are so blessed to have him. I think back to every set back, every loss, every fear, every prayer, and know that it was God who lead us to this point and we could not be more thankful for God and what he has given us. This was the time and place for us and we know that our son is a gift from God.
